Manual DNS Setup for Non-API Providers (Porkbun, Spaceship, etc.)
If your domain is hosted on a provider like Porkbun, Spaceship, Dynadot or any registrar that does not support API integration, you’ll need to manually add your DNS records to verify your domain and enable mailbox services in Mission Inbox. We currently only support API integration with Cloudflare and Godaddy.
🎥 Recommendation: Move Your Domain to Cloudflare for Easier Setup
We recommend moving your nameservers to Cloudflare for faster verification and automated setup.
Benefits:
- Automatic record pushing from Mission Inbox
- Instant DNS propagation
- Easier UI for DNS management

If you would rather keep your records where they are and update manually, this guide walks you through:
- How to determine where to add your records
- Which records to add and how
- How to verify setup was successful
- Troubleshooting tips
✅ Step 1: Confirm Where Your Nameservers Point
⚠️ DNS records must be added at the nameserver level, not necessarily where you bought the domain.
How to check:
- Visit https://who.is or https://mxtoolbox.com/Whois.aspx
- Enter your domain name
- Look under Nameservers
If your nameservers point to:
cloudflare.com
➔ You must add DNS records in Cloudflareporkbun.com
orspaceship.com
➔ You must add them directly in your registrar's DNS panel or move them to Cloudflare, which is free. Refer to this guide on how to move Nameservers to Cloudflare.
🔧 Step 2: Add Your DNS Records
After onboarding, Mission Inbox provides the necessary DNS records:
- SPF (TXT)
- DKIM (TXT)
- DMARC (TXT)
- MX records
Instructions:
- Log in to your DNS host (Spaceship, Porkbun, etc.)
- Go to your DNS Management section
- Add each record exactly as provided (check for extra spaces or line breaks)
✉️ Important:
- Do not add more than one SPF, DKIM, or DMARC record
- If you already have a record, replace it with what you have on MI
🔍 Step 3: Verify Propagation
Use https://mxtoolbox.com/TXTLookup.aspx to check if your DNS records have propagated:
What to look for:
- Enter:
yourdomain.com
- Ensure the SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records appear correctly
Depending on your registrar:
- Cloudflare ➔ Near-instant propagation
- Porkbun / Spaceship ➔ May take 5–30 minutes
⏳ If everything looks good but still shows “unverified” in Mission Inbox, just wait a few minutes and retry.
🚧 Step 4: Avoid Conflicts
You cannot have multiple versions of the same type of DNS record.
Examples of conflicts to avoid:
- Two SPF records
- Two DKIM selectors with the same name
- A DMARC policy that conflicts with MI’s default
- Two MX records pointing to different servers
⚠️ If unsure, delete any outdated records before adding new ones from Mission Inbox.
✉️ Still Unverified? Try Re-Pushing the Records
If you've fixed DNS errors and deleted duplicates:
- Go back to your Mission Inbox domain setup panel
- Click "Re-push DNS records" or retry verification
If needed, contact support with a screenshot of your DNS records or MXToolbox lookup.
