Seeing a “DNS Unverified” warning in Mission Inbox? Don’t worry—it’s a common issue with a few typical causes. This guide walks you through what to check, how to resolve it, and how to avoid future verification hiccups.
🚦 What “Unverified” Really Means
When DNS records show as "Unverified" in Mission Inbox, it means our system hasn’t yet detected the expected authentication records (SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MX, etc.) for your domain. This doesn't always mean something's broken—DNS propagation delays are real.
✅ Checklist: What to Verify
1. Are You Editing DNS Where Your Nameservers Live?
- You must add DNS records where the nameservers are hosted.
- ❌ Mistake example: You bought a domain on Porkbun but moved nameservers to Cloudflare. You added DNS records on Porkbun—not where they matter.
- ✅ Fix: Always manage DNS from the active nameserver (e.g., Cloudflare).
2. Have the Records Fully Propagated?
- Use https://mxtoolbox.com to search for your:
SPF
,DKIM
, andDMARC
records- Make sure they show up globally (not just locally on your machine)
- If MXToolbox shows your records, Mission Inbox should verify them within 5–10 minutes.
3. Did You Accidentally Duplicate or Conflict Records?
